Uncertainty Breeds Fear
Covid-19 breeds fear. This is something I am familiar with. Albeit, my uncertainty usually stems from my fear of submitting to a new market or pitching a potential client. Will they like my style? Am I good enough? The questions go on and on. If I’m not careful, I can talk myself right out of trying.
Coronavirus, Novel Coronavirus, New Coronavirus, Covid-19
I swear every day brings a new angle, a new name, a new fear that must be perpetuated.
I’m going to let you in on a little secret. All media outlets (news stations, magazines, newspapers, radio shows, podcasts, etc.) run on fear. That’s not the secret. We all know this. The secret is writers cater to this. Almost every freelance writer or journalist has had it drilled into them that they need to act fast when news breaks and find their angle. Each writer wants to make a buck and so they sit at their keyboards trying to up the ante in hopes that the news outlet gobbles up their story.
Rational Information on COVID-19
Today I’m sharing five links some with rational information and some with good news brought about because of the virus.
Doctor Fact-Checks the Media on Coronavirus
This video hits on what I said above about writer’s trying to find their angle. It also highlights the media outlets that will use anything to draw readers to them.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Should you take Vitamin D and Vitamin C?
This is another video by Doctor Mike and it gives a rational explanation of Vitamin D and Vitamin C in conjunction with a virus. I guess a better way to say that would be: Dr. Mike clears up what studies have shown.
Good News Front on COVID-19
These next three links are all about the good things happening right now in regards to COVID-19.
Extension on Filing Your Taxes
The Motley Fool is reporting that the IRS extended the tax return deadline to July 15th.
Read it closely though, you can’t just wait until July 15th. You will need to ask for and get an extension first.
Here’s another link to a similar story on Business Insider in regards to the IRS waiving interest and penalties.
Uber is Waiving Delivery Fees
What a great way to help support restaurants affected by shut-downs.
CoronaVirus Vaccine Test Begins
This makes me happy. Yes, they still have hurdles to clear before this is ready for everyone, but it’s a good glimpse of progress in the right direction.
Wash hands, cough or sneeze into your sleeve, take precautions but don’t prepare like it’s an apocalypse. Everyone is inconvenienced, we’re all in the same boat so don’t make it worse by being greedy and decimating toilet paper supplies and the like.
We’ll get through this.
